A VT weekend

Since there's no Virginia Tech football game today, I'll take a moment to fill you in on our last trip to Blacksburg, when we went camping at the end of September. This was our first trip out with the new (to us) pop-up trailer we had recently purchased from my parents. (Thanks, Mom and Dad!) We got off to a bit of a slow start and ended up spending our first night in Shenandoah National Park, but by Thursday afternoon we were settled in next to the New River near Blacksburg.
The great thing about camping with a three year old is that the trailer itself is enough to make it an event. Ethan loved just setting up the trailer and hanging out in it. He and Dad had a good time fishing in the river (no catching involved) and Mom and Keenan enjoyed sitting in the low water and enjoying the afternoon sun.

The extra bonus of the campground was the 4 month old puppy that arrived on Friday afternoon. He and Ethan had a ball chasing each other around -- convincing Ethan that he needs a dog at home. (Not gonna happen.)

In the evening we got to cook hot dogs and hang out with Aunt Jil and Uncle Rhett around the campfire. And the next morning they headed off to the football game and we headed home to watch it on TV, where a train set and lots of snacks were close at hand. All in all we had a short, but thoroughly enjoyable weekend - I'm looking forward to lots more in the spring!
