Reentry

Well, we've begun our reentry into "normal" life after the birth of Keenan. For the first week or so we had pretty much scaled back to just family activities. We didn't do much and what we did do, we did together. It was nice. I think we all appreciated making our world a little smaller for a while and enjoying those precious first few days with Keenan.

Last Wednesday we attempted a "normal" day -- and failed dismally. All in one day we sent Ethan off to spend the morning with Gramma by himself, had Mr. Mike come install a new set of french doors in the living room, had Ethan's friend Levi and his family over to eat dinner (which they provided!) with us and had Miss Jackie come back to stay with us for a few days. And Ethan melted down. I think he was just physically expressing what we were all feeling - this is too fast. I'm not ready to be in "normal" life yet. So we backed off. We cancelled plans and asked people not to come visit. We went out only once a day and then only for basic errands. Basically we made life simple and manageable.

And then the weekend hit. And the great thing is, we were really busy but we were busy together. Saturday we went out to Winchester and spent the day with Sam's family and then Sunday we headed out to my parent's "boat house" for a couple days. My aunt and uncle from Syracuse were visiting, along with their three girls, and Jil and Rhett were there so altogether we had 13 people staying in the 3 bedroom townhome! Chaos, of course, but in this case it was the best possible thing for our family. Ethan latched onto the three girls immediately and was able to very naturally regain his independence again as he played with them constantly for three days. Sam and I were able to rest and relax a bit since Ethan was occupied and there were plenty of willing baby-holders around. I even got to take a nap on Monday!

So our reenty began... and this time it's been natural and unforced. We even made it to the gym today for the first time since Keenan's arrival. Ethan had no problem heading off to the kid's club on his own and the rest of the day has been relatively painless. It feels good to be transitioning into our new normal... and boy, did it feel good to work out!! 20 lbs lighter and double the lung capacity??? C'mon give me a challenge!
