On our own in Monterey

The boys and I had a full day today in Monterey, with Daddy expected to arrive in San Jose this evening. We started out tide pooling this morning, one of my favorite activities to do on the West Coast.

After coming back to camp for lunch, we headed to Lake El Estero to play at Dennis the Menace park. The park is a must-do if you have kids in Monterey.

Eventually we headed over to Fisherman's Wharf for the obligatory tourist shopping and some sweet treats. Along the way we saw our first sea otter!

Finally we stopped by the municipal wharf to pick up some fresh fish for dinner. It was fun to pick out the exact fish we wanted to have them fillet it for us. Panseared and paired with brussels sprouts and fresh bread it made for a tasting evening meal!

Now we're waiting to head towards San Jose to pick up Daddy. His flight out of Vegas was delayed so we expect him to get in around 10:20.  We are looking forward to the aquarium tomorrow!
